Happy spring! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and everything is wonderful… as long as you remember to take your allergy medicine. There are a ton of fun events happening in and around Seattle this April, and we’ve made a list of our favorites for your consideration.
Monday, April 1 - John 5 @ The Crocodile
Famously known as the 5th member to join Marilyn Manson (thus the “5” in his stage name), world class guitarist John 5 is headlining The Crocodile with his own band: John 5 and The Creatures. It’s kind of ironic that John 5 wears more makeup now than he did when we played with Manson.
April 1-30 - Skagit Valley Tulip Festival
The annual Tulip Festival is well outside of Seattle, but a trip up north to Skagit Valley is a lot less expensive than a flight to Holland! Celebrate the long awaited spring celebration by taking time to smell the flowers. Don’t forget to smoke the flowers while you’re at it.
April 5-10 - The Fifth Element @ Central Cinema
This is my opportunity to write out a famous quote from the movie, but if I could confide in you for a moment, I’ve still never seen The Fifth Element. Join me and a couple of other Herbn employees for a screening at Central Cinema!
Saturday, April 6 - The Point and the Edge: Knife Play 101 @ Gallery Erato
Is your sex life getting too routine? Try spicing things up by bringing a knife into the bedroom! Surprisingly, I don’t have a clue what “knife play” actually entails, but an especially kinky budtender said I would be wise to avoid writing about the subject, so it’s gotta be some wild shit!
Sunday, April 7 - DJ Nicfit & Substation Present: A Nightmare on Elm Street @ Substation
If you started smoking weed in high school or college, you’ve probably encountered people taking about syncing up Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon with The Wizard of Oz. In an edgier and more contemporary take on the concept, DJ Nicfit will be doing a live performance on his turntable during a screening of the original Nightmare on Elm Street.
April 7-18 - Seattle Restaurant Week
Smoke a bunch of weed and eat a bunch of food! Over 165 participating restaurants will feature 3 course meals for $35. Come and see us if you need an herbal appertif or digestif.
Tuesday, April 9 - Box Brown: The Illegalization of Weed in America @ Third Place Books Ravenna
Award-winning cartoonist Box Brown will sign copies of his new "graphic essay” which delves deep into the troubling history of the "illegalization" of cannabis in the United States. Spoiler alert: the only reason weed became illegal was because of manipulative racists with power.
Saturday, April 13 - Bonebat Comedy of Horrors Fest @ Uptown Cinemas
Treat yourself to an all-day festival of "giggles and gore” that features live performances and short horror/comedy films from all over the world.
Tuesday, April 16 - Because it Rains: How Rain Shapes Seattle @ Center for Architecture & Design
Of course rainy weather is inexplicably associated with Seattle, but have you ever wondered how that affects architecture and business? Join panelists from the Seattle Architecture Foundation from 5:30 to 7:30pm to learn more about the way rain shapes our city.
Tuesday, April 16 - Mysteries of the Deep: Seattle’s Underwater Secrets @ Pacific Science Center
Witness never-before-seen photos and 3D models of crashed airplanes, wrecked wooden ships, and abandoned artifacts discovered deep beneath Puget Sound. Fingers crossed that there will be at least one treasure chest or a mermaid skeleton.
Friday, April 19 - Game of Thrones: The Drag Show @ Kremwerk
Winter is coming. White walkers. Lannisters pay their debts, or something. For a dude named Ramsey, I really suck at Game of Thrones references, but these drag queens apparently have the attention span I lack and will be performing a GOT themed show to be remembered.
Friday, April 19 - Nech N9ne @ Showbox Sodo
On the day that I wrote this article, the Twittersphere was alight with people mourning the loss of Philadelphia rapper Tech Nine... but that dude is a completely different rapper than the Tech N9ne that budtender Sierra has been looking forward to seeing for the last couple of months.
Saturday, April 20 - Various Events
The good news is that there are a bunch of fun 420 events happening this year in Seattle, but the bad news is that we’re saving those events for another article. Check our blog or social media profiles on Wednesday, April 10 for our Seattle Events: 420 Weekend 2019 article.
Tuesday, April 23 - Cannabis Corpse @ Club Sur
Picture oldskool Cannibal Corpse— you know, those first 4 albums before George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher took over as lead vocalist— but all the songs are about weed now. “The Bleeding" becomes The Weeding, "Tomb of the Mutilated" becomes Tube of the Resinated, "Skull Full of Maggots" becomes Skull Full of Bong Hits, and so on. Cannabis Corpse is a must-see band for stoners and metalheads alike.
Saturday, April 27 - Ari Shaffir: Jew @ The Neptune
In this special performance, comedian Ari Shaffir will talk about his upbringing as an Orthodox Jew, his years spent in an Israeli seminary, and his subsequent realization that he is (and probably always was) an atheist.
Saturday, April 27 - Beethoven v. Coldplay @ Benaroya Hall
A Beethoven performance or a Coldplay concert would be equally torturous for me, and combining the two into one show sounds exponentially worse. If pairing classical music with Chris Martin vocals sounds like a good time to you, then by all means, catch the show at Benaroya Hall and don’t let me stop you.
Sunday, April 28 - Lizzo @ Showbox SODO
The charming, talented, and hilarious rapper/ singer is bringing her body-positive brand of hip hop to Showbox SODO. Share a joint with budtender Micky if you see here there!
Those are our favorite Seattle events happening this April. Thanks for reading, don’t forget to read our upcoming article on 420 events, and be sure to visit our Lake City dispensary for great deals on flower, concentrates, prerolls, vape cartridges, and more!
