Seattle Events: December 2018

December 1, 2018 @ 9:01AM

2018 is almost over, and we’re making the most of it by cataloging our favorite Seattle events happening this December! Know up front that if you’re looking for a wholesome guide to traditional holiday activities in Seattle, this article will be majorly disappointing for you.

Saturday, December 1 - Noise 4 Toys 4: Toys 4 Tots Benefit @ Substation

Featuring a slew of local rock bands like KLAW and Cody Foster Army, Noise 4 Toys is a holiday toy drive with a raucous twist. For every $5 toy guests bring, they’ll be entered in a raffle for a chance to win gift certificates, band merch, and more.

Saturday, December 1 - Photos with Bad Santa @ Rhein Haus

You’ve already posted enough food, baby, and pet photos to Instagram for the week… how about a holiday photo to keep your followers on their toes? Stop by Rhein Haus between 7 and 11pm to [eat currywurst, drink a liter of beer, and] take a photo with Bad Santa.

Saturday, December 1 - Wizards 5K Run/Walk @ Green Lake Park

Did you know that there are more 5K marathons in Seattle than there are strip clubs in Portland? I just made that up, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s true. Anyway, there’s a new Harry Potter themed 5K happening at Green Lake Park at the beginning of the month, so put on your robes, bring your wand, and join the fun (sorry, no brooms allowed).

December 1-22 - Georges Rouault @ Davidson Gallerie

Prints of classic etchings by late French expressionist Georges Rouault will be on display in Pioneer Square (Tuesdays through Saturday). This 2-part series is comprised of Miserere (plea for the pity of God) and Guerre (war). Not only is it one of the greatest series in art history, its free!

Sunday, December 2 - Chanukuh Glow Party @ The Rendezvous

Yuppies. Latkes. Glow sticks. These aren't things that anyone would expect to go together, but Chabad Young Professionals plans to change that with their Chanukuh Glow Party! Wear black light reactive cocktail attire and get psyched for the dreidel tournament.

Sunday, December 2 - December Macabre Market @ Mercury at Machinewerks (“The Merc”)

If photos with Santa aren’t your speed, stop by the goth bar and take a selfie with Krampus! While you’re there, treat yourself to a stiff drink and pick up some creepy crafts from Macabre Market vendors.

Wednesday, December 5 - Yob @ Neumos

If I’ve ever posted a Seattle events blog without featuring a doom metal band, then that was a mistake and I sincerely apologize. Our December feature is Yob, a sludgy metal act that hails from Eugene, Oregon.

Thursday, December 6 - Weed School: House of Cultivar @ Herbn Elements

Class is in session! Our friends from House of Cultivar will be in the shop from 4 to 7pm to talk about their high end indoor flowers. All their products will be 15% off while they're here!

December 7-16 - Buttcracker IV… The Final Countdown @ Erickson Theater Off Broadway

Entering its fourth year running, Buttcracker is a festive holiday performance featuring raunchy satire and dance numbers set to a hair metal soundtrack. Local choreographer Wade Madsen will be playing the role of God.

Saturday, December 8 - Wreath Making Workshop @ Volunteer Park Conservatory

Why buy a wreath for $20 when you can make your own for $45? This holiday workshop will provide you with all the materials you need— a wreath frame, wiring, ribbons, fresh evergreen cuttings, pine cones— and the event post encourages attendees to bring "greenery of your own that you want to incorporate into the wreath.” Are you thinking what I’m thinking?!

Saturday, December 8 - Green Lake Pathway of Lights @ Green Lake Park

If there was ever a night to get stoned and go flâneuring around Green Lake, this is it. The event starts at 4:30pm, so finish whatever you were doing at 4:20pm and head to the lake.

Saturday, December 8 - Blink-180TRUE @ The Funhouse

Budtender Jeff and I are admittedly bigger fans of blink-182 memes and Tom Delonge's Sekret Machines books than the band itself, but a blink-182 tribute band sounds way too fun to resist. The opening act is a tribute to Operation Ivy and Rancid, so feel free to join us outside for a smoke during that set.

Sunday, December 9 - May The Course Be With You 5k @ Cowen Park

Hooray! Another 5K! This one lets you dress up as your favorite Star Wars character (which is great news for Star Wars fans because they haven’t had an excuse to cosplay for 3 whole weeks).

Sunday, December 9 - Halloween in December @ High Dive

Ever wish you could skip Christmas and jump right back to Halloween? You’re not alone! Halloween in December, a benefit for Urban Rest Stop, is a “SUPER COOL HALLOWEEN PARTY” with live music, live painting, and a ballet performance. Halloween costumes are welcome and encouraged.

Sunday, December 9 - Seattle Celebrates the Life of Mac Miller @ Chop Suey

Celebrating the late Mac Miller— the iconic young rapper who tragically passed away earlier this year— DJs from KUBE 93.3 are hosting a Mac Miller party on the night that he was scheduled to perform in Seattle.

December 11-12 - George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic @ The Neptune

The 76-year-old god of funk isn’t slowing down any time soon! Don’t miss George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic as they take over The Neptune for 2 nights.

Wednesday, December 12 - Think & Drink: The State of Journalism @ Naked City Brewing

Once considered a noble profession, journalism has become a divisive subject over the last few years. 72% of Democrats have a “great deal” or “fair amount” of trust in journalists, and only 14% of Republicans still trust the media. Whatever your perspective is, grab a pint at Naked City Brewing and hear takes from journalists at The Seattle Times, The Stranger, and University of Washington.

Thursday, December 13 - Weed School: Creekside Cannabis @ Herbn Elements

Class is in session! The crew from Creekside Cannabis will be with us from 4 to 7pm to talk about their high quality buds and prerolls. All their products will be 15% off while they’re here!

December 14-15 - IRL: Instagram @ The Rendezvous

We marijuana enthusiasts have a love-hate relationship with Instagram. On the one hand, it’s the easiest and most interactive way to keep up with all our favorite cannabis companies, but on the other hand, Instagram has no respect for state-legal marijuana businesses and keeps social media managers in constant fear of having their work deleted. This year’s production of IRL will feature 14 plays, songs, dance pieces, and short films about Instagram.

Saturday, December 15 - Seattle SantaCon 2018

Are you the absolute worst? Dress up like Santa and get plastered downtown so all of Seattle knows! The [un]official beverage of SantaCon is Reindeer Fucker, which is marijuana-infused rum (you get better results if you soak the weed in the rum for at least a week or two. Don’t ask why I know that). Needless to say, we can supply you with half of the ingredients you’ll need to make this traditional holiday beverage.

Tuesday, December 18 - Christmas Movie Trivia @ The Runaway

How good is your stoner memory? Test your knowledge of classic Christmas movies at this special edition of Tuesday Trivia.

Friday, December 21 - Sean Riccio @ The Company Store

Not only is Sean Riccio a budtender, he's also a hilarious stand up comedian! Pick up some prerolls and head to The Company Store in White Center for comedy, drinks, and pub fare. The event is 21+ with a $5 cover.

Friday, December 21 - Eat, Drink, and Be Ugly @ W Seattle

The W hotel is celebrating #NationalUglySweaterDay with a festive happy hour, DJs, and an ugly sweater contest. The winner will receive two tickets to the hotel's 2019 New Year’s Eve celebration!

Saturday, December 22 - Campout Cinema: Die Hard @ MoPOP

Commemorate the 30th anniversary of the greatest Christmas movie ever made: Die Hard. Bring some pillows, cushions, and/ or sleeping bags to sit on. Drinks will be served, but let’s be real, you’re gonna want to bring edibles for this one. We recommend Yippie-Ki-Yay drops by Zoots.

Saturday, December 22 - Ludachristmas @ Neumos

Neumos is hosting a holiday themed Atlanta hip-hop dance party just 3 days before Christmas. Dance to your favorite tracks by Outkast, Gucci Mane, Childish Gambino, Ludacris, Migos, and more. If that Jermaine Dupri song is any indication of what to expect, the party won’t stop till 8 in the mooornin’!

Saturday, December 22 - Seattle Secular Solstice @ The Factory Luxe

It seems counterintuitive to "celebrate humanity’s accomplishments” and “consider the future” in 2018, but that’s not stopping Effective Altruism from hosting their Secular Solstice event. Whether or not you choose to attend, look forward to a little extra sunlight through June.

Tuesday, December 25 - Christmas Day

Our dispensary will be closed in observance of Christmas Day, but we will be open until 11:45pm on Christmas Eve. Swing by before the 25th to pick up your Christmas trees 😉

December 27-29 - Amazing Bubble Man @ Broadway Performance Hall

Bruh. Don’t act like you’re not about to get lit af and trip on some bubbles with me.

Monday, December 31 - New Year’s Eve @ Seattle Center

Bring some friends and ring in 2019 at Seattle Center this year! Dance to pop covers by local band Sway at the Seattle Armory stage, and enjoy live electronic music and video projections at the International Fountain before the Space Needle shoots fireworks at midnight.

. . . . .

Those are our favorite Seattle events for December 2018. Thanks for reading! As a reminder, we’ll be closed on New Year’s Day, so stop by our Lake City dispensary before January 1st if you need something to help with your hangover.
